Successful habilitation: Dr.-Ing. habil. Steffen Neumeier
Dr.-Ing. habil. Steffen Neumeier has successfully completed his habilitation in the field of Materials Science. The dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Kai Willner, congratulated him on receiving his teaching qualification when he handed over the habilitation certificate.
Mr. Neumeier revealed his motivation for his habilitation and his plans for the future in a short interview. Mr. Neumeier is expected to present his research to the public at the Department WW Day next year.
Topic of the habilitation thesis
„Co-base superalloys – From Co-Al-W to multinary CoNi-based superalloys“
What motivated you to do your habilitation?
My motivation for my habilitation is multifaceted. On the one hand, I wanted to strive for the highest academic qualification that the habilitation offers me, as it enables me to supervise doctoral candidates until they graduate. This is particularly important to me, as I am very interested in promoting and supporting young academics. In addition, I wanted to summarize and document in a scientific paper the extensive knowledge we have gained at FAU in recent years on co-based superalloys within the framework of the SFB / TR 103 and the RTG 1229, among others. My aim was to present an overview of this fascinating topic and not only to expand my own knowledge, but also to provide others with valuable information.
What are your plans for the future?
I really enjoy researching and teaching and plan to continue working successfully in the field of microstructure-property correlation of structural materials, especially high-temperature materials. I would also like to inspire future students, doctoral candidates and post-docs for my field and support them in their education and further training. To this end, I intend to acquire further exciting projects and continue to bridge the gap between basic research and industrial application as well as between university research and experiments at large research institutions.
