HydroPURE wins 3. place at business plan competition
HydroPURE from Erlangen has won the 3rd place in the Northern Bavaria 2024 business plan competition!
The research and start-up team from the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering for Metals is successfully developing an innovative and sustainable water purification technology using diamond-coated electrodes.
The team of Timo Fromm, Rudolf Borchardt, Benjamin Seelmann, and Hanadi Ghanem is launching another important future technology that can, for example, remove pollutants such as PFAS or drug residues in sewage treatment plants or make it possible to close water cycles in industry. HydroPURE is therefore an important building block for the European Union’s sustainability goals.
As a welcome side effect, the process produces hydrogen, which can be discharged and used for other purposes.
The first target customers are industrial companies that are not allowed to discharge their wastewater into the public sewer due to excessive levels of trace substances. With the help of electricity and a patented diamond electrode, an electrochemical reaction is triggered that leads to the destruction of the pollutants (oxidation).
